Pandaria in MoP Classic is a massive continent filled with mountains, forests, and plenty of obstacles. Without flying, traveling takes a long time, you’ll constantly run into detours and packs of mobs blocking your path. That’s why the Wisdom of the Four Winds ability is essential. With it, you can soar over Pandaria, save hours of travel time, and farm resources much more efficiently.

In this guide, we’ll cover the requirements for flying, where to learn the skill.

Requirements to Unlock Flying in MoP Classic

You can’t just roll into Pandaria and start soaring. Blizzard designed MoP so players would experience the early zones on foot before gaining flight. If you want to acquire the Wisdom of the Four Winds, here is what you will require.

  • Level Requirement: Your character must be Level 90.
  • Riding Skill: You need at least Expert Riding (150 skill) or Druid Flight Form.
  • Gold Cost: Base cost is 2,500 gold. (Discounts apply with reputation and Goblin racial perks.)

Once these requirements are met, you’re ready to unlock Pandaria flying.

Where to Learn Flying in MoP Classic

Unlike older expansions where trainers were scattered around the world, Pandaria keeps it simple. Both factions will head to their respective capital city in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

  • Alliance Trainer: Cloudrunner Leng - Shrine of Seven Stars (84.2, 61.6), near the Flight Master.
  • Horde Trainer: Skydancer Shun - Shrine of Two Moons (62.8, 23.2), also next to the Flight Master.

These trainers sell every riding skill, from basic ground mounts to Master Riding, so you can upgrade everything in one place.

Costs & Reputation Discounts

The base cost of Wisdom of the Four Winds is 2,500 gold, but smart players can shave off some of that price.

Golden Lotus Discounts: Both Pandaria trainers are members of the Golden Lotus faction. Reputation here directly lowers your costs.

Reputation Breakdown:

  • Neutral – 2,500 gold
  • Friendly – 2,375 gold
  • Honored – 2,250 gold
  • Revered – 2,125 gold
  • Exalted – 2,000 gold

Goblin Racial Bonus: Goblins enjoy Best Deals Anywhere, giving them a further vendor discount regardless of rep.

If you plan to buy expensive upgrades like Artisan Riding (280%) or Master Riding (310%), waiting until you’re Exalted with Golden Lotus can save you thousands. We recommend focusing on getting Exalted with Golden Lotus before purchasing costly upgrades to save thousands of gold.

Flying on Alts: Tome of the Four Winds

One of the biggest quality-of-life changes in MoP Classic compared to the original expansion is the addition of the Tome of the Four Winds.

  • Cost: Around 1,250–1,350 gold (subject to discounts).
  • Use: Teaches Pandaria flying to alts.

Requirements for the Alt:

  • Level 85+
  • Expert Riding already trained

This means your alts won’t have to slog through Pandaria on the ground until 90. Instead, you can start flying as soon as they hit 85. Very convenient.

Cloud Serpent Riding

MoP introduced one of the most iconic mount families in WoW history: Cloud Serpents. But these mystical creatures come with their own rules.

  • To ride them, you need Cloud Serpent Riding, unlocked at Exalted reputation with the Order of the Cloud Serpent.
  • The grind takes about 20 days of daily quests, but the payoff is huge, beautiful, dragon-like mounts unique to Pandaria.

Technically, Cloud Serpent Riding lets you bypass Wisdom of the Four Winds if you’re content with only riding serpents. It’s not practical for most players, but it works.

Flying Speed Upgrades

Buying Wisdom of the Four Winds doesn’t increase your flight speed, it just unlocks Pandaria flying. To zoom through the skies, you’ll need the standard riding speed upgrades. Fully upgrading to 310% will cost around 13,000 gold total if you’re starting fresh, but reputations can bring this number down significantly.

Final Thoughts

At the heart of it, one thing is clear: we all love our mounts. They’re the best way to travel, our loyal companions, symbols of progress, and even a bit of personal style. What would WoW be without them? No comfort, no practicality, and half the world would lose its charm. Imagining Azeroth without mounts is simply impossible.
