Windwool Cloth is the main cloth type in Mists of Pandaria Classic. It’s used in Tailoring, First Aid, and even a few Engineering crafts, making it one of the most consistently demanded materials on the Auction House. It drops from level 85+ humanoids across Pandaria, so you’ll gather some just by questing, running dungeons, or doing Scenarios. But if you want to farm it efficiently, there are specific spots and tricks that make the grind much faster. This guide covers where to farm Windwool Cloth, the best zones and farming routes, useful buffs, and alternatives like Tillers farming.

Where to Farm Windwool Cloth

Windwool Cloth drops from level 85–90 humanoids all across Pandaria, so technically any questing zone will give you some. But if you want to farm seriously, the real trick is choosing spots with:

  • High mob density, more pulls per minute.
  • Short respawn timers (3–5 minutes), so you never run out of targets.
  • Lower HP mobs, faster kills = more loot per hour.

Best Places to Farm Windwool Cloth

Krasarang Wilds - Unga Ingoo

Probably the most famous spot for Windwool farming. On the island of Unga Ingoo, you’ll find clusters of Hozen villagers with about 170k HP each. They’re weak, easy to round up, and perfect for AoE farming, which makes this place a goldmine for tailors and cloth farmers.

At peak hours, this island gets crowded fast. If you want uninterrupted farming, try logging in during off-hours.

Townlong Steppes - Mantid Packs

If you’d rather avoid the chaos of Krasarang, head into Townlong Steppes. The mantid packs here, Krik’thik Deep-Scouts, Scentlayers, and Sra’thik Drones, drop cloth at a slightly higher rate than most mobs.

They do have more HP than the Hozen, but the better droprate balances things out. For geared characters with good DPS, this zone is one of the smoothest long-term farming spots.

Kun-Lai Summit - Howlingwind Cavern

This one feels like a little mini-game. Inside the Howlingwind Cavern, Mischievous Snow Sprites spawn alongside Suspicious Snow Piles. Step on the piles or hit them with AoE, and suddenly more mobs pop out, meaning you can gather a huge pack very quickly.

The catch is that it’s easy to overpull. Twenty sprites at once can overwhelm an undergeared farmer. Classes with good AoE and control will shine here.

Dread Wastes - Ik’thik Mantid Groups

If your goal is the highest droprate possible, then Dread Wastes is king. The trenches in the eastern half of the zone are swarming with Ik’thik Fear-Shapers, Warriors, and Slayers, and these mobs drop Windwool Cloth more often than anywhere else.

They’re level 90, hit hard, and take longer to kill. Still, if you’ve done quests here and picked up Klaxxi buffs like Angel of Death, this becomes hands down the best spot for pure cloth farming.

Vale of Eternal Blossoms - Ruins of Guo-Lai

Finally, there’s the Ruins of Guo-Lai, filled with Shao-Tien mogu. These mobs have around 400k HP but reward you with strong cloth drop rates. The area is also rich with Shao-Tien groups, so you’ll never run out of targets.

For solo farmers, the health pool might make this grind slower than in other zones. But for well-geared players or anyone farming in a group, the payoff is worth it. Plus, it’s right next to hubs and portals, making it a convenient choice.

Windwool Cloth Farming Alternatives

If you’re not in the mood for open-world farming, there are still solid alternatives. Running Scenarios is a nice way to stock up on cloth without staring at the same spawn point for hours. Every humanoid in Pandaria has a chance to drop Windwool, so you’ll naturally collect it while farming gear, points, or just chasing achievements. It’s not the fastest method, but it’s more engaging than grinding the same packs endlessly.

Another steady option is the Tillers Farm in Valley of the Four Winds. Once you unlock your plots on Sunsong Ranch, you can plant Windshear Cactus Seeds. Each seed grows into a guaranteed piece of Windwool Cloth. With all 16 plots available, that’s a daily haul of 16 cloth for almost no effort.

Tips for Windwool Cloth Farming

There are a couple of tricks that make farming noticeably more efficient:

  • Potion of Luck: This alchemy consumable is a must-have if you’re grinding humanoids. It spawns Plundered Treasure chests that often contain extra cloth, motes, ore, and even gear.
  • Cloth Scavenging (Tailoring): If your character is a tailor, don’t skip this perk. Even though the tooltip says Northrend, it does work in Pandaria, giving you extra cloth from level 85+ mobs.
  • Group vs. Solo: Farming in a group clears mobs faster, but remember that loot is split. Solo farming gives you every drop, but if you’re undergeared it can feel slow. Choose based on your class strength and goals.

Windwool Cloth Uses

  • Tailoring: You’ll burn through stacks turning them into Bolts of Windwool, epic gear, and the much-demanded 28-slot bags.
  • First Aid: Windwool Bandages (regular and heavy) are still useful, especially for raid groups and PvP players.
  • Engineering: Needed for recipes like the Ghost Iron Dragonling and Tinker’s Kits.
  • Auction House: Cloth is always in demand.

Final Thoughts

If you just want raw speed, Dread Wastes is hands-down the best spot, especially if you can handle the higher-level mantid packs. Krasarang Wilds is great for relaxed AoE farming when you don’t want to fight tougher mobs, while Townlong Steppes and Kun-Lai Summit are strong alternatives if your main farm is too crowded. And don’t overlook the Tillers farm, it’s slower, but it’s guaranteed cloth every single day with no competition.
