Introduction
Knowing what is best to play in each season is sometimes a big factor in deciding what you're going to be pushing high keys with. Even though your class might not always be S-Tier, it can still be pretty strong, even as A-Tier or B-Tier, so knowing what you can do and what strengths each class has is a solid factor in deciding what to pick up this season.
Tier List
An important note is that the first to the last ranking will matter in this tier list!
S-Tier
Let us start with the S-Tier, the highest and strongest tier, where the dps classes and specs that simply have almost no drawbacks shine. These classes are Apex units, simply providing solid utility on the field, alongside heavy damage rotations in both AoE and single-target fights. These dps specs will make any job and dungeon easier, and they’re one of the most recommended ones to perform even above +15, and make your life easier.
- Unholy Death Knight (San’layn)
- Balance Druid (Elune’s Chosen)
- Arcane Mage (Spellslinger)
- Marksmanship (Sentinel)
A-Tier
Even though A-Tier is not the highest tier, these specs and classes are still strong and provide a significant advantage to your group. Even if they slightly have lower damage output, they still work perfectly fine even in higher keys over +10, so you don’t have to worry about depletes at all. If executed properly, these classes are as good as S-Tier.
- Retribution Paladin (Templar)
- Elemental Shaman (Stormbringer)
- Fire Mage (Sun Fury)
- Devastation Evoker (Flamesharper)
- Assassination Rogue (Deathstalker)
- Enhancement Shaman (Stormbringer)
- Destruction Warlock (Hellcaller)
- Arms Warrior (Colossus)
- Demonology Warlock (Diabolist)
- Enhancement Shaman (Totemic)
- Windwalker Monk (Conduit of Celestials)
- Havoc Demon Hunter (Aldrachi Reaver)
- Feral Druid (Druid of the Claw)
B-Tier
This is a tier of classes that are kinda middle of the pack. They’re good, but they do not perform insanely. They can get the job done on time and provide a solid amount of utility, but they will not shine as other specs and classes in the tiers above. It is important to consider these classes, though, as they do have some situational things, and can be a clutch factor and a better choice sometimes than A-Tiers, however, it's purely situational, so it depends on the dungeon to dungeon and what your current team comp is.
- Frost Mage (Frostfire)
- Beast Mastery Hunter (Pack Leader)
- Outlaw Rogue (Trickster)
- Frost Death Knight (Deathbringer)
- Shadow Priest (Archon)
- Subtlety Rogue (Trickster)
- Marksmanship Hunter (Dark Ranger)
- Frost Death Knight (Rider of the Apocalypse)
- Windwalker Monk (Shado Pan)
- Havoc Demon Hunter (Fel Scarred)
- Survival Hunter (Pack Leader)
C-Tier
These specs and classes are not performing so well this season; they tend to fall on DPS meters and don’t have high utilities to compensate for the lack of it. They can still be relevant once you do have over 660 Ilvl, but they start to struggle as soon as you reach higher keys (+15 and above).
- Fury Warrior (Moutain Thane)
- Affliction Warlock (Hellcaller)
- Survival Hunter (Sentinel)
- Shadow Priest (Voidweaver)
- Affliction Warlock (Soul Harvester)
- Arcane Mage (Sun Fury)
- Fire Mage (Frost Fire)
- Demonology Warlock (Soul Harvester)
- Balance Druid (Keeper of the Grove)
- Elemental Shaman (Farseer)
- Outlaw Rogue (Fatebound)
- Feral Druid (Wildstalker)
- Subtlety Rogue (Deathstalker)
- Fury Warrior (Slayer)
- Retribution Paladin (Herald of Sun)
- Devastation Evoker (Scalecommander)
D-Tier
This is a really bad tier, and it’s best to play some other spec and hero talent for your spec in case they rank higher, as these specs/hero combinations tend to really fall behind and struggle with higher keys.
- Unholy Death Knight (Rider of the Apocalypse)
- Destruction Warlock (Diabolist)
- Augmentation Evoker (Chronowarden)
- Augmentation Evoker (Scalecommander)
Final Thoughts
As we conclude this article, there are some things to keep in mind. Most classes can handle much of the content without any major issues. However, the lower the tier, the more these specs begin to struggle, whether in terms of damage, utility, or cooldowns. Still, most classes should be able to clear keys up to +15 without much difficulty once they have the appropriate gear. Classes in the S and A tiers should have no problem pushing even higher with some practice, while B and C tier classes will need more specific team compositions and will be more situational choices for reaching your goals in a given dungeon.
D-tier specs, unfortunately, are unlikely to perform well in anything above a +10 in Mythic Dungeons. In these cases, it is worth checking if a specific spec performs better when paired with different Hero Talents. For example, Unholy DK ranks as S-Tier when using San’layn. This idea also applies to some higher tiers; the best Hunter spec would be Sentinel Marksmanship, making it worthwhile to try out and see if it suits your playstyle. Balance Druid is another S-Tier example, whereas its other Hero Talent, Keeper of the Grove, is significantly weaker than Elune’s Chosen. Exploring different Hero Talent options can be an enjoyable way to experience how each spec plays with the added flavor that these talents bring.
