Mounts in World of Warcraft are more than just a means of transportation; they are symbols of achievement, dedication, and sometimes, sheer luck. In this article, we're going to cover the rarest and the most sought-after mounts to get in World of Warcraft, updated for The War Within in 2025, along with information on how to obtain them

1. Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent

How to Get:
Drops from the Sha of Anger world boss in Kun-Lai Summit. The drop rate is only 0.03%, which surely puts it among the rarest mounts in the game that can take hundreds, or up to thousands of tries.

2. Headless Horseman's Mount

How to Get:
Drops from the Headless Horseman during the Hallow's End event, which occurs annually around late October. The mount has a very low chance of 0.5% to drop for each try. Taking into consideration the fact that it is available only once per year for a limited time period makes it even harder to obtain.

3. Spawn of Galakras

How to Get:
It is awarded by completing the not-so-easy "Glory of the Orgrimmar Raider" achievement. It contains a total of 14 other achievements, some of them considered very hard to accomplish and definitely not soloable.

4. Voidtalon of the Dark Star

How to Get:
Found by entering Edge of Reality portals that randomly spawn in various locations across Draenor. Only one person can use each portal, and upon entering, players can loot the Voidtalon Egg to obtain the mount. It only spawns on certain days of the week with an incredibly long respawn timer of 48 hours, and if not claimed for ~5 minutes, the portal just disappears back into the void.

5. Invincible's Reins

How to Get:
Drops from the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel on Heroic 25-player difficulty. The mount has a low drop rate of less than 1% and is highly sought after for its unique appearance and lore significance.

6. Ashes of A'lar

How to Get:
Drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider in the Tempest Keep raid. The drop rate is low, about 1-2%, and players often farm this raid weekly on several characters to obtain the mount.

Bonus: Violet Proto-Drake

How to Get:
Rewarded for completing the "What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been" achievement, which requires completing several holiday event achievements throughout the year. If you have no progress on the meta achievement, it would take you about a year to complete it.

Collecting these mounts requires patience, dedication, and sometimes a bit of luck.
