What is World of Warcraft Timewalking?

World of Warcraft Timewalking is a recurring weekly event that allows players to revisit content from past expansions. When active, characters and gear are scaled down to an appropriate level, enabling players to queue for Timewalking Dungeons and enter a specific Timewalking Raid from the featured expansion, offering a chance to relive iconic moments and earn valuable Timewarped Badges and unique rewards.

When does Timewalking happen?

Timewalking happens on a rotating weekly schedule throughout the year. Each week the event is active, content (Dungeons and one specific Raid) from a different past expansion is featured (Classic, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, Battle for Azeroth). You can check your in-game calendar to see which expansion's Timewalking is next and when it will be active.

What kind of activities are involved in Timewalking?

During an active Timewalking week, players can queue via the Dungeon Finder for the featured 5-player dungeons from that expansion. Additionally, they can form raid groups to challenge the specific Timewalking Raid available for that week's expansion. Both activities involve engaging with scaled-down encounters, requiring coordination and execution to earn Timewarped Badges and scaled loot. A weekly quest rewards extra badges for completing several dungeons.

What rewards can players get from Timewalking?

Completing Timewalking content provides several valuable rewards. The main currency is Timewarped Badges – you earn 25 badges per dungeon completion and also earn badges from defeating Timewalking Raid bosses. A weekly quest awards a significant amount of 500 Timewarped Badges and scaled gear for completing (usually 5) Timewalking dungeons. Badges can be spent at the Timewalking vendor, active only during that expansion's week, for unique mounts, pets, toys, reputation tokens, heirlooms, and gear. Scaled loot also drops from dungeon and raid bosses.

How many Timewarped Badges can you get from participating in the activities?

While the Timewalking Event is active, Timewarped Badges can be earned from the following activities:

  • Killing a Non-End Dungeon boss: 10
  • Killing an End Dungeon boss: 20
  • Completing a random dungeon: 25
  • Completing the dungeon while your role is up for Call to Arms: 50
  • Killing a Non-End Raid boss: 20
  • Killing an End Raid boss: 50
  • The first once-per-event quest on an account: 500
  • Subsequent once-per-event quests on an account: 200 or 300
  • Quest reward caches (random chance): 100

Are there achievements specifically for Timewalking?

Yes, there are achievements associated with participating in Timewalking. These include achievements for completing the specific dungeons and clearing the Timewalking Raid available each week, which often count towards the original instance achievements. While acquiring items from Timewalking vendors contributes to your general account-wide collection achievements (for mounts, pets, toys, etc.), there are typically not dedicated achievements specifically for earning Timewarped Badges or collecting items across multiple Timewalking vendors.
