Introduction

Gearing in the game is always something you must focus on, so you can get ahead of the curve early and be ready to get easy access to the content you want without struggling. In Season 2 there is plenty of the ways to get some interesting gear, with some new changes and optimizations from Season 1, this one feels way smoother and easier to gear, not needing too much hassle to reach certain item level that makes +10 Keys or Heroic raid far easier and comfortable with any class or spec.

Gearing System

Understanding how the gear works and how much exact track you need gives item level an important and big factor in gearing. We’re going to run through how this system exactly works and how much item level each track gives on each tier.

Early Gearing

It is important to know the best way to gear early, so let’s say you just hit 80 on your first character or leveled an alt, so deciding where to start is a big factor in this process. For the brand new characters and even some alts, some of the more basic open world activities with chests/troves can bring you solid early gear, but there are plenty more things you can get good and useful gear fast and efficiently try to reach a higher item level and be ready for both Raiding and Mythic+.

  • World Quests - This is an early method for fresh characters that can help you get some “starting gear.” They will award higher item levels as soon as you progress to the higher item level, but they’re mostly locked around the Veteran track.

  • Delves - This is probably one of the best additions to gearing systems we’ve had in the game. Delves are fast and easy to medium difficulty activities that can grant you fairly good gear. Champion track is awarded from the Bountiful Chest at the end of the Bountiful Delve, you need a key, however. There is also a random chance to get Delver’s Bounty, which will award you a Hero track gear starting from 649 Item Level after you complete your next one. There is also an additional chest that has special mobs that you need to kill inside the delve, which is pretty much like a bonus reward you can obtain after killing these mobs, and you have a chance to get an additional drop that can help you with some early gear. There is also a low drop chance to get a Warbound Gear from Delves.
  • Mythic+ - Getting into some keys is also a solid way to get some gear, and even if you don’t get many drops, it’s a good way to fill out the vault as fast as you can, having as many options early to pick gear from is a big factor in having an optimal path towards high item level. As every single key level gives you Hero track from the Vault up to +9, after that, +10 and above gives you Myth track, which is a huge upgrade for your character, regardless of the piece that drops.
  • Raiding - Raids can also be another huge way to get gear, and on top of the random drops from Liberation of Undermine, you can get it; also, it fills additional Vault slots. Early, you can try clearing Normal difficulty, as there are plenty of groups in the Premade Groups finder, but it is also not too hard, even if you’re not experienced in raiding. If you don’t want to tackle Normal difficulty or raiding in general, you can use LFR to get some interesting slots in the vault. Despite not being very high item level, they can still award you with BIS trinkets and Tier Sets, far easier than other slots.
  • Cyrece’s Circlet - This is a MUST-have ring for pretty much all classes and specs. Getting it upgraded to the highest possible item level should be your top priority. You can also focus on getting your most beneficial Citrines as they significantly increase the overall output your class/spec can do, and you’ll perform insanely well with it. It goes up to 658, so it should be a solid way to start your character with a strong gearing piece.

Where to get even better gear?

After you hit a certain Item Level, probably around 640-650 and you can finally do content comfortably, feeling your DPS slowly rising higher. You should be ready to start clearing a bit more challenging content, higher keys, heroic or mythic raid, and start showing your numbers to the world. Knowing what is the fastest and most efficient way to get good gear is a huge factor in providing good progress on your journey in Season 2.

First of all, getting Hero track gear is a huge and important tip, having all your slots filled with this level of gear can make you hit at least 665 Item Level with fully upgraded Hero Track piece, meaning that you’re fairly close to the highest possible Item Level, which should be around 678.

After that, you can focus on getting some Myth tracks, if you don’t raid, that can be obtained by completing a +10s and then getting an item of such track in the vault each week. You can also use the Catalyst to get some Tier Sets by applying them to your Helmet, Shoulders, Chest, Hands, or Legs, and try to speed up the process of getting a good upgrade and enhance your class further. We recommend applying this on Myth track pieces that don’t have Tier Set bonus, as it’s the most efficient way to use it. However, you can also apply it on Hero Track, if you REALLY need that bonus, as your class/spec might benefit from it significantly.

One of the best ways to continue the gearing journey is by far Mythic+ as you can repeat it an infinite number of times per day, as long as you have your key, but even without it, you can freely find a group that runs some and get it done over and over again. You can get Hero track drops from the dungeon starting on +6 and above, meaning that this is a solid way to get some useful and strong gear. You can also get some non-tier piece drops of the aforementioned pieces that you can use for the tier set on the catalyst and apply it, if you do require that bonus as fast as possible.

There’s also raid gearing, which is fairly useful. Hero and Myth tracks are dropping from Heroic and Mythic raids, respectively. They have the lock, so you can do it only once a week for each difficulty, but it can be a good way to get some additional gear each week and reach your desired goal even faster. Also, it’ll fill out your Vault with some very useful pieces, such as rings or trinkets, on top of some rare drops from Raids that can be there as well, providing one of the most useful pieces as a drop from the vault on either Hero or Myth track.

Valorstones and Crests

These are the upgrading materials, as all your gear has levels of its respective tier. Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, and Champion all have 8 Levels in their tier, while Hero and Myth tracks both have a total of 6. Each level provides a 3 to 5 item Level upgrade to the piece you’re applying it to. You can check the requirements for each tier in the previous tab. In the one down here, we're going to list the Valorstones requirements.

Here’s where you can obtain each crest, as they all drop from different activities, and depending on the difficulty you are doing, you will be awarded a different crest.

  • Weathered Undermine Crests - These are awarded from Tier 1 to 5 Delves, LFR Liberation of Undermine, Heroic Season Dungeons, and Repeatable Outdoor Events.
  • Carved Undermine Crests - These drop from Tier 6 and 7 Delves, Normal Liberation of Undermine Raid, Mythic Seasonal Dungeons, Delver’s Bounty (Tier 4 and 5), and Weekly Outdoor Events.
  • Runed Undermine Crests - These can be obtained from Tier 8 to 11 Delves, Heroic Liberation of Undermine Raid, and Mythic+ Dungeons (from +2 to +6).
  • Gilded Undermine Crests - These are obtained from Tier 11 Delves (Only 21 of these can be obtained each week, they are awarded from Delve’s Gilded Stash and you can only get 3 of these in the given week. They are found in Bountiful Delves), Mythic Liberation of Undermine Raid and they drop from +7 Mythic Dungeons and above.

Final Thoughts

This concludes our guide, going through all the important tips and tricks, how you can gear the fastest in the TWW Season 2. Knowing all the required sources for the crests and gear tracks you intend to obtain is a huge factor in the gearing process. Getting all the crests ready and upgrading the track you need is important; getting lots of Runed and Gilded Crests can prove to help you significantly in getting your item level higher once you do have Hero and Myth Tracks.

Runed Crests are also used for the last 4 levels of the Champion tracks, so they’re probably the two most important Crests to focus on getting, while the first 2 (Weathered and Carved) are far easier to get, so they shouldn’t be a significant problem to get. Valorstones run out fast, so try to complete all the activities that award them from World Quests, to weekly ones, and do some repeatable ones alongside them. Delves and Mythic+ dungeons are the most carefree way to farm Valorstones, as they can also grant you some solid gear, so they feel very efficient.
