Introduced with the Renegades expansion, the Praxic Blade is one of the most unusual Exotic weapons in Destiny 2. This Kinetic Sword uses Special Ammo and combines traditional melee attacks with projectile reflection and a ranged blade throw.
The weapon is also highly customizable, with different upgrades, Forms, Power Cores, and Catalysts allowing you to change how it performs. There are currently four Praxic Blade Catalysts:
- Echoing Blade
- Upper Hand
- Hyperblade
- Energy Conduit
Each Catalyst enhances a different part of the weapon.
But like many things in Destiny 2, unlocking every Catalyst isn't always easy and can require careful planning, multiple attempts, or an organized team. If you need help with any activity in Destiny 2, our services are always available to assist you. Use code BLOG15 at checkout to get 15% off.
This Destiny 2 Praxic Blade Catalysts Guide explains what every Catalyst does and gives you the steps needed to unlock all four.
What Is the Praxic Blade in Destiny 2?
The Praxic Blade is an Exotic Kinetic Sword that uses Special Ammo. Although its basic attacks function like those of other Swords, its additional mechanics give it several ways to engage enemies. The Praxic Blade can:
- Attack enemies with close-range Sword strikes.
- Reflect incoming enemy projectiles.
- Throw the blade at enemies from a distance.
- Recall the blade after throwing it.
This combination makes the weapon useful for both aggressive melee combat and situations where you want to attack from farther away. Its Catalysts build on these mechanics rather than simply providing a straightforward damage increase.
The weapon's customization system is one of its defining features, so unlocking the Catalysts is particularly useful if you plan to use the Praxic Blade regularly.
All Praxic Blade Catalysts
Here is a quick overview of the four Catalysts and where to get them:
Catalyst | Effect | Source |
Echoing Blade | Increases the number of targets the thrown Sword can hit. | Fire and Ice |
Upper Hand | Increases thrown Sword and reflected-shot damage while you are on higher ground than the target. | Fire and Ice |
Hyperblade | Reflecting shots makes you Amplified and gives the Sword increased lunge distance for a single swing. | Fire and Ice |
Energy Conduit | Grants health regeneration based on the number of targets hit by the thrown Sword. | Equilibrium / The Way Between |
How to Access Fire and Ice
Following the June 2026 Director changes, the old Legends node was deprecated. Bungie moved Exotic missions such as Fire and Ice into the appropriate Pinnacle Ops section. Fire and Ice is still available to players who own and have progressed through the Renegades campaign.
How to Get the Echoing Blade Catalyst
Echoing Blade increases the number of targets your thrown Praxic Blade can hit, making it particularly useful when you use the weapon for clearing groups of enemies.
To unlock it, you need to complete Fire and Ice while finding and destroying seven hidden Oddities throughout the mission's traversal sections. The Oddities appear as small Taken Blights hidden along alternative paths. You must destroy each one with the Praxic Blade.
Echoing Blade Steps
- Launch the Fire and Ice Exotic mission.
- Select the required higher difficulty for the Catalyst run.
- Progress into the Ascendant Plane.
- Search the traversal sections for the seven hidden Oddities.
- Destroy every Oddity with the Praxic Blade.
- Complete the mission.
- Claim the Catalyst from the Praxic Vault at the end.
Unlike the other Fire and Ice Catalyst objectives, the seven Oddities do not require the mission timer to be active.
Where Are the Seven Echoing Blade Oddities?
The seven Oddities are hidden throughout the platforming and traversal sections of Fire and Ice. They are generally placed behind disappearing walls, along alternative routes, or in locations that require you to look away from the obvious path.
Oddity 1
After entering the Ascendant Plane and dropping down into the large open area, look for a ledge on the left rather than immediately following the main route.
Follow the illuminated ledges until you reach a section with disappearing blocks. The first Oddity is hidden behind this route.
Use the Praxic Blade's throw to destroy the Blight.
Oddity 2
After collecting the first Oddity, return toward the main route.
Look for another disappearing section in the wall. Enter the hidden area and use the nearby ledges to reach the second Blight.
Destroy it with the Praxic Blade before continuing.
Oddity 3
Continue through the jumping section until you reach the area with the large structure and icy platforms.
Instead of following the most obvious route, look for a hidden path using the nearby platforms and ledges. The third Oddity is located along this alternative route.
Oddity 4
Continue through the traversal section and pay attention to the disappearing platforms and blocks.
Before leaving the relevant room, look for a small hidden opening that leads to another Blight.
Reach the hidden area and destroy the fourth Oddity with the Praxic Blade.
Oddity 5
Continue until you reach the narrow path with the diamond-shaped opening.
Look upward for another disappearing section. The next hidden route leads to the fifth Oddity.
Position yourself carefully and throw the Praxic Blade through the opening to destroy it.
Oddity 6
The sixth Oddity is located in another open platforming area.
Look below the main route for a hidden Blight. This one can be awkward to hit because of its position, so take your time and line up the Praxic Blade throw carefully.
Destroy the Oddity before moving on.
Oddity 7
The final Oddity is located around the higher rock formations and platforms in the open traversal area.
Climb toward the higher section and look for a structure containing the final Blight.
Find an opening and throw the Praxic Blade inside to destroy it.
Once all seven Oddities have been destroyed, complete Fire and Ice and collect Echoing Blade from the Catalyst reward area.
How to Get the Upper Hand Catalyst
The Upper Hand Catalyst increases the damage of the thrown Praxic Blade and reflected shots while you are on higher ground than your target. This makes positioning particularly important when using it.
Upper Hand is obtained through a hidden objective in the Fire and Ice Exotic mission.
Upper Hand Steps
1. Launch Fire and Ice on the Required Difficulty
Start Fire and Ice and make sure you are running the difficulty required for the Catalyst objective.
Before entering the main facility, explore the area around the entrance.
2. Defeat the Two Imbalanced Wardens
You will find two Imbalanced Wardens outside the facility.
Defeat both of them before proceeding.
Make a note of where they were located because their positions become important later in the Catalyst objective.
3. Activate the Mission Timer
Continue through the mission until you reach the Ascendant Plane section with the four Pyramid activators.
Destroy all four activators to begin the timed section of the mission.
4. Progress Through the Mission
Continue until you reach the Balance the Scales encounter.
Complete the required progression and continue until the mission shifts into its alternate state.
5. Return to the Warden Locations
After the realm changes, do not immediately proceed through the next portal.
Instead, backtrack to the locations where you killed the two Imbalanced Wardens.
Taken Blights should now be present at those locations.
Destroy both Blights using the Praxic Blade.
6. Complete the Final Encounter
Continue through Fire and Ice and complete the remaining encounter mechanics.
During the final section, complete the required Light Blight objective before finishing the encounter.
Once the mission is complete, enter the Praxic Vault and check the Catalyst reward chest for Upper Hand.
The Upper Hand and Hyperblade objectives can be completed during the same run, but separating them into different runs can make the process easier to troubleshoot if a Catalyst does not appear.
How to Get the Hyperblade Catalyst
Hyperblade focuses on the Praxic Blade's defensive and mobility mechanics.
Its effect causes you to become Amplified when you reflect shots and gives the Sword increased lunge distance for a single swing.
Like Echoing Blade and Upper Hand, Hyperblade is obtained through a hidden objective in Fire and Ice.
Hyperblade Steps
1. Start Fire and Ice
Launch Fire and Ice on the required difficulty and progress into the Ascendant Plane.
2. Activate the Timer
When you reach the section with the four Pyramid activators, destroy all four.
This activates the mission's timed Catalyst sequence.
3. Reach Balance the Scales
Continue until you reach the Balance the Scales encounter.
Normally, the objective is to balance the Blights by depositing the appropriate energy.
For the Hyperblade Catalyst, you instead need to deliberately create an imbalance.
4. Overcharge the Blights
Use matching energy to overcharge each of the four Blights.
Rather than balancing them normally, repeatedly feed the same type of energy into an individual Blight until it becomes imbalanced.
This causes special enemies to spawn.
Repeat the process for all four Blights.
5. Defeat the Imbalanced Enemies
Defeat the special enemies that spawn from the four imbalance states.
Once the required enemies have been defeated, additional Taken Blights appear around the central structure.
6. Destroy the Hidden Blights
Use the Praxic Blade to destroy the four additional Blights.
This causes the special Catalyst of Imbalance boss to appear.
7. Defeat the Catalyst of Imbalance
Defeat the special boss before completing the regular encounter.
Once the hidden objective is successful, you should receive a message indicating that something has changed within the Praxic Vault.
Finish Fire and Ice and enter the reward area to claim Hyperblade.
Bungie previously confirmed an issue where players could have problems acquiring Hyperblade, and later patched a separate issue involving the Catalyst's perk activation.
How to Get the Energy Conduit Catalyst
Energy Conduit is the fourth Praxic Blade Catalyst and is obtained differently from the other three.
Instead of being tied to Fire and Ice, Energy Conduit is connected to the Equilibrium dungeon and The Way Between quest. Its effect grants health regeneration based on the number of targets hit by the thrown Praxic Blade.
Energy Conduit Steps
1. Complete the Equilibrium Dungeon
First, complete the Equilibrium dungeon.
Completing the dungeon is required to begin the progression that leads to The Way Between and the Praxic Blade's final Catalyst.
2. Start The Way Between
After completing Equilibrium, return to the Praxic Temple.
Interact with the appropriate area unlocked through your Praxic progression to begin The Way Between quest.
3. Return to Equilibrium
The quest sends you back into the Equilibrium dungeon to search for stolen Praxic relics.
These objectives are not simply part of a normal dungeon clear. You need to complete additional hidden objectives and interact with specific dungeon mechanics to reveal the relics.
4. Recover the Praxic Relics
Progress through Equilibrium and complete the required relic objectives.
The quest involves multiple stages, with each relic requiring you to complete specific objectives within the dungeon before it can be recovered.
This makes Energy Conduit considerably more involved than simply completing Fire and Ice once.
5. Complete The Way Between
Continue completing the quest objectives until all required relics have been recovered.
The final stages lead to the quest's conclusion and unlock the associated Praxic Blade rewards.
Once The Way Between is complete, you can claim Energy Conduit.
Because it requires a dungeon completion plus additional quest objectives, Energy Conduit is generally the most involved of the four Praxic Blade Catalysts.
Which Praxic Blade Catalyst Is the Best?
There is no universally best Praxic Blade Catalyst because each one improves a different part of the weapon.
Echoing Blade is the most straightforward choice for players who frequently throw the Praxic Blade at groups of enemies. Increasing the number of targets the projectile can hit improves its potential for clearing multiple enemies at once.
Upper Hand is more situational. Its damage bonus depends on being on higher ground than your target, so it rewards players who actively use vertical positioning.
Hyperblade is a strong choice for aggressive players who regularly use the Praxic Blade's projectile-reflection mechanic. Becoming Amplified and gaining increased lunge distance gives the weapon additional mobility after a successful reflection.
Energy Conduit is focused on survivability. Hitting multiple enemies with a thrown blade can provide health regeneration, making it particularly appealing when fighting groups or playing more aggressively.
If you plan to use the Praxic Blade regularly, unlocking all four gives you the most flexibility and lets you tailor the weapon to different activities.
Is It Difficult to Get All Praxic Blade Catalysts?
Getting all four Praxic Blade Catalysts takes considerably more effort than simply completing an Exotic mission. The three Fire and Ice Catalysts require you to:
- Complete the mission on the required difficulty.
- Find hidden objectives.
- Destroy seven hidden Oddities for Echoing Blade.
- Understand the Balance the Scales mechanics.
- Trigger hidden encounters.
- Defeat special enemies and bosses.
- Complete the mission after activating the required Catalyst objectives.
Energy Conduit requires additional progression through the Equilibrium dungeon and The Way Between quest.
If you would rather save time or avoid dealing with the mission's hidden mechanics, our Destiny 2 boosting services can help you unlock the Praxic Blade Catalysts more efficiently. Our experienced players can assist with the required Fire and Ice objectives, hidden encounters, and Equilibrium progression, depending on the service you choose. There is also an important reason to be aware of older Praxic Blade guides. Bungie previously fixed an issue where players who did not earn all of the weapon's Catalysts during a single run could be prevented from obtaining the remaining ones. Bungie also fixed other Fire and Ice issues involving its timer and reward room.
If an older guide tells you that you must obtain all three Fire and Ice Catalysts in one run, that information should therefore be treated with caution.
Final Thoughts
The Praxic Blade is one of the most distinctive Exotic weapons introduced in Destiny 2, combining Sword combat, projectile reflection, and ranged blade throws into a single weapon.
Its four Catalysts reinforce those different mechanics rather than simply adding raw damage. Echoing Blade improves multi-target throws, Upper Hand rewards elevation, Hyperblade enhances reflection and mobility, and Energy Conduit adds additional survivability.
Three of the Catalysts come from hidden objectives in Fire and Ice, while Energy Conduit sends you into the Equilibrium dungeon and The Way Between quest.
If you want to fully unlock the Praxic Blade's potential, completing all four Catalyst objectives is worth the extra effort. Just remember that current players should access Fire and Ice through the updated Pinnacle Ops structure rather than the old Legends menu.
