The Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost 2025 is almost here, bringing masks, haunted fights, and a flood of seasonal loot. Every October, Guardians gather to honor the fallen and poke fun at the Darkness by wearing costumes, smashing pumpkin-headed nightmares, and farming candy like it’s going out of style.

This year, the Destiny 2 Halloween event 2025 we’re getting new fan-voted armor sets, returning Haunted Sectors with harder versions, reworked currencies, and a refreshed loot pool that includes some of the strongest Festival weapons to date.

Event Dates & Duration

Festival of the Lost is a timed event, so knowing when it starts and ends is important if you don’t want to miss exclusive loot.

  • Start Date: October 21, 2025 (after weekly reset)
  • End Date: November 4, 2025
  • Duration: 3 weeks

That’s all the time Guardians have to farm candy, complete the event card, unlock triumphs, and chase rare drops like the Lost Memento or the Superblack shader.

The seasonal node for Festival of the Lost Destiny 2 activities (Haunted Sectors) will appear in the Tower map, and Eva Levante will be waiting in the Courtyard with your first mask, bounties, and access to the Book of the Forgotten.

Haunted Sectors Activity

The core of the Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost 2025 is the return of Haunted Sectors. These special mission variants are available directly from the Tower map. Eva Levante will also give you access once you pick up her mask, which is required for most rewards.

How Haunted Sectors Work

Haunted Sectors are matchmade activities that pit Guardians against waves of enemies and the infamous Headless Ones, giant Hive Knights with glowing pumpkin heads. To summon them, players stand inside ritual circles until a Headless One spawns. Defeat it, and another appears, up to a maximum of ten per run.

Once you’ve slain enough, the sector boss enters the arena. This boss has a shield mechanic: every time you drop a third of its health, it becomes immune. To strip the shield, summon another Headless One, kill it, and use the pumpkin bombs it leaves behind to break the barrier. Only then can you continue damaging the boss.

The fight flows like this:

  1. Enter the Haunted Sector.
  2. Stand in ritual circles to spawn Headless Ones.
  3. Defeat them until the timer or the cap of ten.
  4. Fight the sector boss, breaking its shields with pumpkin bombs.
  5. Open the chest for candy, pages, and a chance at Festival loot.

Difficulty Levels

  • Normal Mode: Matchmade, casual-friendly, good for farming candies and pages.
  • Legend Mode: Harder enemies, stronger modifiers, and better drop chances.
  • Expert Mode (new in 2025): The ultimate challenge. Expect higher enemy density, champions, and improved rewards, including guaranteed Eerie Engrams.

If you’re farming for triumphs or the Lost Memento, you’ll need to dip into the Expert tier.

Masks & Rewards Inside

You must wear a Festival mask (from Eva) to earn candy, pages, and other special currencies. Without the mask, you’ll complete the activity but walk away with nothing seasonal. Masks work as ornaments on the Masquerader’s Helmet, which you can buy for just 100 Glimmer.

(!) Haunted Sectors are also where you’ll progress triumphs like Heads Will Roll (defeat 100 Headless Ones) and other weapon-focused challenges.

Rewards & Currency

The Festival of the Lost Destiny 2 is all about collecting event currency and exchanging it for unique rewards: masks, cosmetics, weapons, and secret unlocks. In 2025, three main currencies return: Candy, Eerie Engrams, and Manifested Pages. Each has its own role.

Candy Farming

Candy is the backbone of the event. You earn it by defeating enemies and completing activities while wearing a Festival mask. The more enemies you slay, the more candy you stack.

  • Tower Trees: Each Guardian can loot about 800 free candy per character by shaking the glowing trees near Eva and Ikora in the Tower.
  • Activity Farming: Strikes, Crucible, Gambit, and Haunted Sectors.
  • Efficient Farming: Haunted Sectors on Legend or Expert difficulty are the fastest candy farm thanks to high enemy density.

Candy is spent mainly on focusing Eerie Engrams for Festival loot.

Eerie Engrams

Eerie Engrams drop from Haunted Sectors and are guaranteed in Legend difficulty clears, with an additional drop chance from Expert. Engrams can be focused at Eva Levante into specific loot:

Specific Festival Weapon1000Your chosen FotL weapon
Exotic Arms/Legs/Helmet/Chest2500 eachYear-based Exotic armor
Exotic Class Item2500Guaranteed with attunement (Dual Destiny completed)

Important: Exotic Class Items require The Final Shape DLC unlocked.

Manifested Pages & The Book of the Forgotten

Another returning system is the Book of the Forgotten, located near Eva. You unlock its lore pages using Manifested Pages, which drop at the end of Haunted Sectors or from other activities when wearing a Festival mask.

  • Use: Spend pages to unlock lore chapters and progress event triumphs.
  • Title Requirement: To claim the event seal, you need to fill the entire Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4 book.

Event Card

Every Guardian gets an Event Card from Eva for free. It tracks challenges (like defeating Headless Ones or earning candy) and rewards cosmetics such as shaders, emblems, sparrows, and finishers. Completing all card objectives unlocks the Superblack Shader, one of the most requested returns.

Weapons & Armor

The Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost 2025 weapons pool mixes returning favorites with a brand-new shotgun. All of them drop from Haunted Sectors or can be focused via Eerie Engrams at Eva Levante.

Festival Armor

The community once again voted on armor sets earlier this year. The results brought horror-inspired designs straight into the game.

All three sets can be purchased with Bright Dust or Silver in Eververse during the event. If you missed older fan-voted sets (Dinosaurs, Mechs, Insects, Skeletons), many rotate back in the shop too.

Triumphs & Secret Challenges

The Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost Triumphs are tied to the event card. Completing them not only gives Bright Dust, emblems, and cosmetics, but also unlocks the Superblack Shader and contributes to the seasonal title.

Secret Challenges

On top of the listed Triumphs, the event hides extra objectives. These unlock the Lost Memento, a rare weapon cosmetic that makes your guns pitch black with a glossy finish.

To get it, Guardians must complete a hidden triumph called Twilight:

  • Step 1: Equip the Tower Staff Mask and talk to Eva and Saint-14 to receive the Confiscated Gift Bag.
  • Step 2: Equip the Cursed Thrall Mask and get 100 explosive damage kills.
  • Step 3: Equip the Finalized Ghost Mask and get 50 sword kills in Expert Haunted Sectors.

Finish all steps, and you’ll unlock the Lost Memento. The Expert Haunted Sector step is the hardest. Bring a fireteam and coordinate sword loadouts to finish it quickly.

Final Thought

The Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost 2025 is packed with reasons to log in daily. But three weeks fly by fast. If you want the shader, the memento, and good rolls on this year’s weapons, you’ll need to commit to farming Haunted Sectors and candy early. Many Guardians underestimate how quickly the timer runs out, only to regret missing out when cosmetics rotate out of reach.

If you want to make sure you walk away with everything or simply don’t have time to repeat Haunted Sectors every night, there’s always another path. With Destiny 2 boosts you get what you need.
